Loneliness at university or other institutions for young people
One core issue in our society is the loneliness of young people. Aside from the global statistics displayed in the latest WHO report, in particular in Germany publications such as Diehl from 2018, Wenig from 2025 and the Einsamkeitsbarometer of the Kompetenznetz Einsamkeit show that students in particular and young people in general have consistently suffered from high degrees of loneliness. One suitable measure is of course awareness work as well as walking young people through good mechanisms to build habits from for developing both their core circles and extended networks of weak ties.
The following documents are designed as Templates for „Powerpoint Karaoke“, i.e. slides that should allow lecturers or tutors of psychology, sociology, paedagogics or general social sciences without much preparation on their own part give a concise three-session overview on the topic and thus aid students starting out at University or job starters starting vocational training, internships or actual jobs.
They eventually should become open educational resources, but at the moment should be more considered as public beta status – good enough to be used, but still in the process for further refinement.
One session introduction
The following is a draft for a 60 min presentation including a few interactive polls as activities to conduct with students as they enter university, often bringing with it a change in location.
Full speaker notes are being prepared but any professor of psychology or sociology should be sufficiently familiar with the base concepts to „powerpoint karaoke“ this slide deck to give their students as a one-off some helpful social advice and guidance as they embark on their undergraduate or graduate degree courses.
It is a first draft for a flow, and draws on the more extensive decks from the three session deck.
With a PDF editor it should be also possible to just cut and paste slides from the latter into the short deck if you want to adjust the narrative to fit your local audience.
